OUR SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS & SERVICES

A holistic strategy for sustainable packaging solutions

Our sustainability strategy focuses on pushing the sustainable packaging industry to new heights, whether it be promoting circular systems, optimizing packaging performance, or designing refill & reuse models.

As the world’s largest Hybrid Packaging Supplier, Berlin Packaging is not beholden to a specific material or process. We source components of all significant substrates thanks to our global suppliers’ network.
We partner with our customers to develop broad-based, factually grounded, and profitable packaging sustainability programs.

OUR c.o.r.e model

Circularity

We create closed loop systems for our customers in all aspects, whether it be selecting certain raw materials or designing for efficient recyclability. We actively promote and incorporate materials that support circularity, such as post-consumer recycled content (PCR) and bio-based materials.

Optimization

We focus on improving our customers’ packaging technical performance and functionality. We do so in a variety of ways, whether it be localized manufacturing, increased durability, or controlled dispensing. Doing so ensures that any packaging we design has a minimal environmental footprint.

Reuse & Refill

We design reuse & refill systems, offering our customers a sustainable business model that can attract consumer engagement. By designing reusable packaging and durable refill systems, we can reduce material usage and minimize environmental impact.

Environmental services

Our customers can leverage on our expansive suite of advisory services and tools to receive tailor-made expertise and guidance for their comprehensive sustainability needs.

Vinolok

Sustainability Attributes

Vinolok is a fully recyclable closure designed for disassembly:

The glass part is recyclable without loss of quality
– The EVA sealing ring is recyclable. Biobased EVA is also available
– The closure is glue-free, silicone, PVC and phthalates free
– The plastic part can be easily separated by the consumer

Design for Disassembly is a design strategy that considers the future need to disassemble a product for repair, refurbish or recycle.

Helium Mixology

Optimization

Helium Mixology

Sustainability Attributes

“100% Carbon Neutral”
For Helium mixology, in particular:
– timeless design
– compatible with Vinolok fully recyclable closure
– compatible with Bartop closures
– half-flint glass, up to 75% cullet
– Carbon –neutral (in partnership with Climate Partner)

Carbon Neutrality is achieved when “anthropogenic emissions of GHG are offset by an equal amount of reduced emissions, avoided or seized within a given time horizon”.

Foamy

Circularity

Foamy

Sustainability Attributes

Foamy is the first of its kind, a refillable foamer made from glass. This allows the container to be recycled, provides inert storage of sensitive formulas and is customizable in numerous ways. It is a sustainable alternative when compared with traditional plastic foamers and it can be disassembled, allowing the consumer to recycle all the components by material (glass, PP and PETG).
Design for Disassembly is a design strategy that considers the future need to disassemble a product for repair, refurbishment or recycling.

Elise Revive

Circularity

Elise Revive

Sustainability Attributes

Elise Revive contains 10% Post Consumer Recycled glass, certified by a 3rd party (Union).
PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled Content) means recycled content used by end-consumers and recycled into a container. PCR is used in the glass melt to lower the melting temperature, with benefits in terms of energy consumption. The higher the PCR%, the higher the risk of stones, impurities, contaminations in the glass melt, potentially leading to flaws, aesthetical defects such as bubbles and checks.

Airglass Jar

Reuse & Refill

Airglass Jar

Sustainability Attributes

The consumer can reuse the Airglass Jar several times – replacing the PP refill cartridge in two easy steps; Airglass Jar components are designed for complete disassembly, sorting and recycling of the different materials (glass, PP, PETG). The jar leverages airless technology that reduces product waste, protects the contents from contaminants, and dispenses precise product amounts. Compared to conventional glass jars, the Airglass jar exemplifies the concepts of reduce, reuse, and recycle. The heaviest and most energy-intensive part of the packaging—the glass jar—is meant to be reused, while the plastic insert can be recycled and replaced as needed.
Refillable solutions allow to minimize environmental impact with a significant reduction in Carbon Footprint and packaging material usage when sufficiently reused over time. Reuse-and-refill models can also improve the user experience, thanks to the design of beautiful containers made to last, and help build stronger brand loyalty.
Refilling means that packaging remains in the system and can be used again and again.

Duo-2 Piece

Sustainability Attributes

This closure is made of detachable parts, making it easy to recycle – the wood from the head and synthetic material in the leg. It is compatible with the use of post-consumer recycled plastic raw materials, as well as polymers from a renewable source.

Recycling is the action or process of converting waste into reusable material.
In the European waste hierarchy, waste prevention is considered the best solution, followed by reuse, recycling, and recover.
